Alpha Zoo
A few years ago, I created a writing learning tool called Alpha Zoo for my son Arlo, who has a genetic disorder that makes copying letter forms very difficult. I wanted to design a way to make tracing letters fun and help him develop his writing skills.
Each letter features an animated animal character that children only meet after they've traced the letter correctly. The tool also includes phonics prompts to help with sounding out each letter.
We developed Alpha Zoo in both app and book formats.

Playful characters.
We created 26 3D-rendered animals that moved and spoke in exciting and engaging ways. Bright, colorful, and mischievous, they were designed to guide children along their learning journey.
Bedtime reading.
In addition to the app version, I wanted to create a more traditional hardback book edition. The book features each animal illustrated in a classic 2D style and includes fun, catchy rhymes for each letter.
The project received national coverage in Design Week.
